Support Fridays for Future as they mobilise the world’s youths to demand climate action

Last Friday, millions around the world took part in the global climate strike. From New York City to Kuala Lumpur, people walked out of schools and workplaces, urging world leaders to take immediate, concrete climate action and put an end to the era of fossil fuels.

Instigating this wave of protests is the organisation Fridays For Future - a movement that encourages youths from across the globe to strike on Fridays and demand immediate action on climate change by politicians and lawmakers.

The movement began in August 2018, when then 15-year-old Greta Thunberg sat skipped school for weeks and sat outside the Swedish parliament, protesting their failure to take meaningful climate action.

Thunberg’s social media posts quickly went viral, and in early September of that year she vowed to continue to sit outside Parliament every Friday until the Swedish government fulfill its commitments to cut emissions under the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

Thunberg’s actions sparked a global wave of people and children around the world striking on Fridays outside their respective parliaments and city halls, calling on their representatives to take steps to tackle the climate crisis.

Fridays For Future functions as a genuine grassroots movement, guiding and supporting youths around the world who wish to organise protests and strikes and demand immediate climate action.

Visit their website to access their resources, calendar and map of events and protests, as well as tools that will help you organise your own climate strike wherever you are in the world.
