Join BROUK in supporting Rohingya refugees

The decades-long oppression of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar has accelerated in August 2017 with the onset of what has come to be known by the international community as the Rohingya genocide.

Over the past few years, the systematic slaughtering of Rohingya has left tens of thousands of innocent civilians dead, and hundreds of thousands of them have been forced to flee to neighboring Bangladesh, where they currently live as refugees.

But the authorities in Bangladesh have adamantly resisted the assimilation of Rohingya asylum seekers in their society, and have consistently pushed for their return to unsafe Myanmar.

Rohingya asylum seekers in Bangladesh are crammed into crowded, makeshift refugee settlements where they live in horrid conditions and are prohibited from attending local schools.

International response to their plight has been fitful and largely insufficient.

The Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK) is a London, UK-based nonprofit organisation founded by diaspora Rohingya that works to raise global awareness of the plight of Rohingyas and provide them support both inside Myanmar and elsewhere.

BROUK was established in 2005, and has since conducted thorough research into the atrocities committed against Rohingyas and has been closely attuned to the unfolding situation in both Myanmar and Bangladesh. BROUK also meets with prominent leaders and organisations throughout the world, pressing for greater action on behalf of Rohingyas.

In November 2019, BROUK has filed a Universal Jurisdiction petition in Argentina against military and government entities in Myanmar for their crimes against humanity and genocide of the Rohingya. This petition constituted the first Universal Jurisdiction case filed anywhere in the world concerning the Rohingya genocide.

“We provide a vital voice for the Rohingya people through our work with the community inside Myanmar, as well as the wider diaspora. We are committed to training the next generation of Rohingya leaders through interaction and capacity building with Rohingya youth. We have provided humanitarian support to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh,” BROUK states on its website.

Please visit the BROUK website to access their reports, learn about their mission, and make a donation to support their efforts. You may also visit their Twitter page, where they post regular updates regarding Rohingyas, and help spread their message on your platforms.
