The organisers of the campaigns to free Rodney Reed and Michael Thompson, stop the execution of Nate Woods, and achieve justice for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taolyr, and George Floyd, established the Grassroots Law Project - an non-profit organisation that fight for social justice reform and the termination of systemic racism in the United States.
The organisation is creating a vast grassroots movement that will provide legal support to those who could not otherwise afford it in order to transform the criminal justice system in the U.S.
The Grassroots Law Project does not merely seek to fight for individual cases, but intends to “push for bold policy changes to dismantle systems of injustice and replace them with policies, committees, and resources that support healing and community care.” It will do so by confronting top elected officials, prosecutors, and police departments and drawing public attention to cases of systemic racism that are not reported on mainstream media outlets.
The organisation’s policy plan will most likely evolve as cases progress, but at the moment outlines the following objectives: defunding the police and investing in communities, ending police violence, establishing independent oversight, holding police accountable, advancing decarceration and reforming the immigration system.
Among the individual cases the Grassroots Law Project is pursuing at the moment is a campaign to get justice for Muhammad Muhaymin, a black man who was murdered by Phoenix police officers for trying to use a public restroom.
“We’re building a grassroots movement for change to provide a new resource for those without expertise, finances, or social reach to seek justice with us, together—and we can't do this without you,” the organisation’s mission statement reads. “Remember, nobody is voiceless. They are just unheard. We exist to amplify their voices and to fight for them every step of the way.”

The Grassroots Law Project is seeking passionate volunteers who will help them carry out their mission and fight for social and racial justice in the United States. Click here to explore volunteer opportunities, and here if you wish to make a donation.
